During the Beta, we invite V-Ray artists to get an early look at what is coming, provide feedback and have an impact upon the release. MAKING OF Platige Image on Ice With Winter Olympics excitement having spread all over the globe, we look back at one of the most memorable ads that promoted the games this year. See how Poland’s premiere VFX studio Platige Image teamed up with London’s Stink Digital and the Juice Productions to create a daunting and beautiful commercial for the BBC coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics. EDUCATIONAL SPOTLIGHT Interview with Gero Langheinrich Being fond of technology and design, Gero Langheinrich brought those two personal interests together when he joined the Media Technology program at the University of Applied Science in Deggendorf and took part in the production of “Before it’s too late”. COMPETITIONS 12th Annual VES Awards - Outstanding VFX in a Student Project The FMX 2014 Trailer Rugbybugs has won the award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project at the 12th Annual VES Awards. ASID NY Metro Chapter Student Career Day Game of Thrones-inspired furniture design was the challenge for the groups of students in this year’s ASID NY Metro Chapter Student Career Day. Congratulations to the winning team! We hope winning a V-Ray for SketchUp license will help you keep up the good work! V-RAY NEWS V-Ray for Softimage Free Crossgrades As officially announced, Autodesk will discontinue Softimage following the release of Softimage 2015 this coming May. Users who purchased a V-Ray for Softimage commercial license until March 6th, 2014 will be offered a free crossgrade to V-Ray 3.0 for 3ds Max or V-Ray 3.0 for Maya, once it ships. V-Ray 2.0 for SketchUp Service Pack V-Ray 2.0 for SketchUp Service Pack 1 is now available. We’ve added a few new features, improved many current ones and V-Ray now supports SketchUp 2014. V-Ray for Blender Andrey Izrantsev, the developer of V-Ray for Blender, has joined the Chaos Group team and he is working actively on the better integration of V-Ray and Blender. Blender artists and designers can now utilize the full set of features included in the V-Ray rendering system.
